Contemporary Rooftop Garden

Despite the challenge of incredibly restrictive weight loadings on the rooftop, an open, soulless 100m2 rooftop space has been transformed into a beautiful, contemporary roof garden, with dynamic zones for dining, relaxing and entertaining family and friends.

Inspired by the client’s eclectic mix of furniture and artwork, the design creates a seamless narrative between the interior and exterior spaces.

The Angled Garden

The challenge of an awkward shaped site was embraced in this project through the creation of terraced zones.

Inspired by the tiered garden designs of Chilean Landscape Architect, Juan Grimm, it features a more sustainable, drought tolerant planting scheme, reminiscent of the client’s homeland.

BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair – Show Garden

Built by a team of two landscape contractors in just 16.5 hours, this small show garden showcases the contractors’ talents, technical and teamwork skills. A panel of expert assessors observed and assessed their work throughout the construction process.

Inspired by the dry garden planting of the late Beth Chatto, the design demonstrates how it is possible to boost the biodiversity of the smallest of spaces with a spectacular display of drought tolerant planting, carefully selected for their flowering longevity and seasonal interest.

BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair – Show Garden

We were asked to design a competition standard show garden for this year’s BBC Gardeners’ World Autumn Fair held at Audley End House & Gardens, Saffron Walden, Essex.

The design Inspiration has come from the two square oak panels in the Great Hall at Audley End House. We have taken their geometry, their simplicity and elegance in celebrating features of Jacobean design, but with a modern twist befitting of the 21st Century and through the creative use of shape and modern-day build materials.

A Contemporary Elizabethan-Inspired Garden

Kenilworth Castle’s Elizabethan Garden was used as structural inspiration for the client’s Grade II Listed property and garden, but with a contemporary twist. This twist comes from the clever use of asymmetry, which cuts through the rectilinear geometry of the overall design. A restricted planting palette of specimen, topiary, multi-stemmed trees, grasses and perennials in greens and whites has been used to create a more intimate and tranquil space for the client to relax and unwind. A bespoke rill and reflective pool, which captures the reflection of the village church beyond the garden, brings a contemplative quality to the space.

A Contemporary Elizabethan-Inspired Garden

A contemporary take on Elizabethan Garden design was the inspiration for the redesign of this front garden. A statement garden fitting for its 15th Century, Grade II and Historic England Listed building.

A Street Art-Inspired Garden

A clear, geometric intent was met within the design and driven by the clients’ love of contemporary street art – particularly the work of two Iranian activist-artist brothers. The geometry was then offset with an exuberant planting scheme, which will deliver year-round interest and evergreen structure. A verdant family and entertaining space with a sense of escapism was especially important to the clients.

A Street Art-Inspired Garden

This garden has design elements which celebrate the creative and expressive works of two Iranian activist-artist brothers, whose street art inspired our clients when they visited the Moco Museum in Amsterdam. They wanted a verdant family space with a sense of escapism.

A Japanese Inspired Garden

A sustainable, modern, Japanese-inspired garden. The inspiration for this design came from ‘Yatsuhashi’ – a traditional form of footbridge in Japan. We extracted the beauty from traditional Japanese gardens and represented it in a modern, minimalist way. Incorporating essential elements of Japanese garden design with the Japanese design principles of asymmetry, enclosure, borrowed scenery, balance and symbolism.

85% of the client’s existing hard-landscaping materials were recycled and reused in the design, as were statues and garden ornaments which held sentimental value.
