A Japanese Inspired Garden

A small garden inspired by the client’s time in Japan. A sleek and stylish design, with a perfect balance of hard landscaping and planting to bring order from chaos, creating a space of peace and tranquillity.

The Treetop Garden

A challenging brief, as there is a 5m high escarpment which cuts diagonally through the garden. The land on the face of the escarpment is unusable, so reducing the practical area of the garden by approx. 50%. The clients wanted to extend the usable area, so the design centred around a floating cantilevered deck which extended over the edge of the escarpment and into the surrounding tree canopy.

The Courtyard Garden featured in Landscaping Design Ideas - 12 ways to transform your outdoor space

Adam's project, a Courtyard Garden

LANDSCAPE YOUR BACKYARD WITH A CONSCIENCE

If you want a sustainable garden the building materials you choose as part of your landscaping ideas should be hardwearing with a long-life expectancy and ideally sourced locally. The planting should be low maintenance and drought tolerant where possible to limit water usage. For dry gardens, the landscaping should also positively add to the biodiversity and ecology of the site.

'For this landscaping project the clients wanted a complete redesign of part of their sloping aspect garden. They wanted a contemporary courtyard design that was sustainable in terms of both the materials used and plants chosen,' explains Adam Vetere, who is known for his sustainable designs. 'In addition, existing planting was relocated throughout the site rather than disposed of.'

The newly designed courtyard is used for relaxing and entertaining. Once a traditional cottage garden, now a dry ‘garrigue’ planting scheme is offset with a cool and contemporary backdrop. A network of geometric corten steel planters and natural limestone boulders act to complement the rectilinear courtyard setting, allowing for a wonderful space to relax and entertain.

The Angled Garden

The existing rear garden was an awkward shape and lacked energy and soul. However, the awkward shape allowed for some interesting geometry and level changes which added vitality, life and atmosphere to the new garden.

The Relaxation Garden

A garden to match the new house. The clients renovated their existing house from the ground up, creating a magnificent contemporary house in the heart of Berkshire and the garden needed to change. The result was a sleek and stylish design which provided an architectural response to the rear of the house, which gradually relaxed and naturalised as you moved down the garden, ending in an atmospheric wildflower orchard. The design majored on sustainability and enhancing the biodiversity in the garden.

Adam Vetere Named APL Designer of the Year 2022

The Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) recently celebrated their annual awards and we were delighted to see that LCGD Graduates were successful in winning a number of awards.

Adam Vetere won two awards, the first for the Best Soft Landscape and also the overall APL Designer of the Year 2022 for his Ravine Garden (pictured). Adam graduated from LCGD in 2019 and is a great example of what a professional course in Garden Design can help you achieve for your business in a short period of time.

Rachel Reynolds, a 2016 LCGD Graduate working as the lead Designer for Langdale Landscapes also helped her company win three awards for different gardens.

Congratulations to both Graduates!

Courtyard Garden

A garden developed to thrive in our ever-changing climate – once a traditional cottage garden, now a dry ‘garrigue’ planting scheme offset with a cool and contemporary back drop. A network of geometric corten steel planters and natural limestone boulders act to complement the rectilinear courtyard setting, allowing for a wonderful space to relax, entertain and to take in the views of the countryside beyond.

The Riverside Garden

A garden which drew inspiration from the contours and movement of the stream which sat at the bottom of the garden. The design had to work hard to meet the practical requirements of the clients and their family while delivering a stylish, intimate and contemporary garden, which would be enjoyed for years to come.

Contemporary Rooftop Garden

A large 100m2 rooftop garden for a penthouse apartment, created to blend modern and contemporary lines with sumptuous planting for an immersive outdoor living space. Several zones were created within the space to allow for dining, a morning coffee, and area to chat with friends and a raised seating housing a luxurious outdoor sofa. The planting and screening was positioned to create privacy and intimacy within the garden, plus it was used to frame the views to the countryside beyond.
